Truly, I Have Lost a Hugo Most Thoroughly
On losing awards and the kindness of professionals.
Today @MaryRobinette gave me an incredible present. As some of you may know, the current #HugoAward structure does not allow Geek Calligraphy to be nominated as a business. This means that Ariela is the only name on the ballot and the only one who gets a nominee rocket pin. pic.twitter.com/07TVIyAhtb

When Mary Robinette met me today to have @pecunium take a photo with the #LadyAstronaut original painting, we were discussing her joy at receiving the award. Pecunium noted that he would be glad just to receive a nominee pin. I was asked where mine was.

I replied that I did not get one. Mary Robinette said “oh right, because bullshit.” And then went to take the pin off her own lapel. I tried to get her to stop and she insisted. I started to cry. Mary Robinette informed me that I well deserved it and she had 8 more at home.

Pecunium remarked that due to various structural constraints, I may be the most thorough #HugoLoser of them all and the pin and ribbon are well earned.

So from the bottom of my heart, thank you @MaryRobinette for sharing your official piece of Dr. Elma York, Lady Astronaut, with me. It means the world. And thank you for the hugs.
