Hey, everyone tweeting those hot takes about Broadway accessibility in the wake of the #Hamilton release?

That was a multi camera filming of three separate shows, expertly and nearly seamlessly edited together to make what you can watch today.
That took a separate director to make.

I’m all for filming Broadway shows with their originating casts! But what they film for the archives is not what you’d call... watchable.
People clamoring for the archives to be opened up need to know what they’re getting. They’re essentially getting a wide camera shot of the stage. That’s it. The camera doesn’t move, doesn’t zoom in, doesn’t help you Be There.

It’s essentially a high quality bootleg.
I have long theorized that what happened to #Hamilton should happen for every show and go to movie theaters via Fathom Events or something similar (like what was done with #Newsies). But it needs to be done mindfully or it just won’t be worth watching.
